 Artist Statement:

“Spending my formative years in Brooklyn, NY exposed me to a great deal of street art/graffiti. I was enamored with a mural between two subway stops that animated like a flip-book as the train passed it by— I remember it as being my first encounter with art in an unusual space. When Tryp Hotel commissioned artwork for the subterranean wall space outside of the windows of its on-site restaurant Brickshop, I was thrilled to be able to pay homage to that which captivated me as a child. Art is and should be everywhere.

For the rooms, I was tasked with creating graphics for 208 chalkboards. Inspired by the property’s former life as a vocational school I looked to shapes/tools that provoked thoughts of measurement: protractors, rulers, geometric forms— while adding my own style into the mix.”
