The design for we belong everywhere came to me following a trip to Grand Rapids, MI. Standing on the shore of a semi-frozen Lake Michigan, I wondered how many other Black women like me had had the opportunity to witness this breathtaking nook of nature. I’d flown hours and then grouped into a caravan as a part of an artist residency with Cody Cook-Parrott. I had not stumbled upon this view on accident. It was a shared journey and we both knew, I had every right to be there.

I’d felt this way about the beauty natural landscapes of this country before, as though someone(s) has worked incredibly hard to hide the world away from me. But, I know I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE EVERYWHERE.

WE BELONG EVERYWHERE.
